SOFIA RAMIREZ

Task 1: About Me

I am a first-year student currently in design 2 for the Bachelor of Architecture in RMIT. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had an interest in design and architecture. From cheerfully looking at display homes with my parents when I was 10 to creating my own designs and ideas eager to share it with the world, I knew architecture was for me. This goal of mine was concrete when I saw a TED talk from Bjarke Ingels a few years ago. His TED talk had greatly inspired me and motivated me to improve my work. Seeing how the design of a structure or building can influence the surrounding environment, from the atmosphere to the way people interact with it made me feel that I could be part of something that matters. Growing up alongside with my two sisters, I come from a very sport orientated family. From a very young age, I have always been very engaged in sports and found joy in playing basketball and soccer, both at home and in our local rec centre. I played basketball for 8 years and then decided it was time for a change and to try something different.  I now currently help out with my sister’s footy club located in Williamstown. As well as a supporter and volunteer for the team, I am mostly known as their water girl. The studio Reworking the library is something that I find compelling as it sees an in-depth look at what really is a library, as well as what can or cannot go into one. Showing the constant progression of growth within the history of our state’s library, seeing its ever-evolving structure to adapt in the new 21st-century library. Seeing how the different rooms and sections can lead to inspiration in research, projects and collaborate, where a single space can form a sense of community as well as a place for the development of oneself and its ideas.
