task 8/9

Last week, we were asked to read a short story and reinterpret the library which it describes in our own design proposals. in this task we will be taking this one step further by writing our own short story, as well as design the architecture that goes with it. new library will be named the "something library"

The story that we created will take the form of a 200 word ‘micro-fiction’, a style of very short fiction which is demonstrated in ItaloCalvino’s 1972 book Invisible Cities. In this famous book of short stories, Calvino described hundreds of imaginary cities, usually in stories so brief that they only take up one page. we were required to read an excerpt from this book and emulate its style of imaginative story telling.

the waterfall library

The Library of Nuve where the halls and rooms are filled with light pouring down from its walls and roof, except for the lone tower in the east where the madmen roam. Rooms grand and wide holding only the best and finest of books for the people of Nuve, where waterfalls hang for those who don't fit in with their kind, flushing away all useless books and people, with the sounds of the water falling covering their cries. Grand staircases and corridors helping guide its people to social and reading rooms, cover in the finest of things from humble of begins to now greater things the people admire its beauty and elegance. Surrounded with gardens till the eyes can see before you reach the library, for the people of Nuve want to keep it a secrete and to keep it filled with pretty things. As their island is too high to reach and far to see only those who seem worthy will be able to see it floating within their dreams.

for task 9 we were asked further develop the aesthetics of our architecture, our conceptual thinking, designing through narrative, and about your architectural language.

IN THIS TASK I CREATED MY OWN SHORT STORY AND FROM THAT CREATED MY OWN IMAGINATIVE LIBRRAY. I NAMED THE LIBRAY “THE NUVE LIBRRAY” MEINING RAIN AS WITHIN THE LIBRRAY I HAD CREATED A WATERFALL WITHIN THAT GOES THROUGH MOST FLOOR OF IT, GIVING THE ILLUSION OF RAIN. THE DESIGN WAS INSPIRED BY BYZANTIN ARCHITECTURE TO GIVE THIS GRAND AND OVER THE TOP FEEL TO IT, AS THE LIBRRAY I INVISION IS FOR ONLY THOSE OF ELITE CLASS AND HARD TO GET TO AS IT IS IN A FLOATING MOUNTAIN

THE NUVE LIBRARY OR THE WATERFALL LIBRARY THAT I HAD CREATED NOW INCLUDES MULTIPLE WATERFALLS WITHIN IT AND IS HEAVILY ORNAMENTED TO SUIME ALMOST RUIC AND GRAND IN ITS VIEW, AS ITS NOW FLOATING ISLAND, DRAWS IT AS MORE DESIRABLE FOR PEOPLE TO VISIT. I HAVE INCLUDED THIA IMAGERY OF PEOPLE WANTING TO REACH IT BUT FAILING BY FALLING OFF BY ITS WATERFALLS OR BY GOING THROUGH FAKE STAIRS
